Student tax advice, as students have enough to worry about:

Paying Tax on Teak Garden Furniture

Whenever you buy anything from a shop you will be expected to pay tax on that purchase. This will come in the form of VAT and teak garden furniture is one such product that you will have to pay tax on.

If you are buying from a UK seller the amount of tax that you will have to pay is fixed at between 17.5 and 20% on many goods. There are of course goods that are exempt from this level of tax such as food, many items for young children, books and equipment for people who are disabled.

So, if you are buying teak garden furniture, you should expect to pay a total of 20% tax on your purchase. This may seem like quite a high amount but this is fixed and everyone buying items such as garden furniture will be expected to pay it.

You will not have to calculate the amount of tax you will have to pay on your garden furniture as this will be done for you. In fact, most items that are sold in shops are clearly marked with the price that includes VAT.

As said, anytime you buy garden furniture you will have to pay tax on it. This rate of tax is fixed in the UK at 20% (from Jan 2011) and this is the amount that you will have to pay when you complete your purchase.
